Description

Description:
The wine is characterized by a light tannin content, well-integrated acidity and fruitiness. The cherry-red Vernatsch is reminiscent of red fruits and impresses with its beautiful aroma (cherry, strawberry), the pleasant acidity gives it freshness. In addition, it has characteristic features of a Burgundy Wine due to its special cultivation method and the old clones.

Grape variety:
Schiava (Vernatsch) - Valle Isarco South Tyrol - Vigneto delle Dolomiti IGT - not filtered. 69 Vernatsch is a Schiava that was planted in 1969 and has never been watered. The old clones and the never-existing irrigation give it a Burgundy character.

Production area:
Ritten - Renon. The Rielinger has planted 0.7ha with Schiava (Vernatsch) at 680-720 m above sea level. On the steep southern slope at the foot of the Renon with deep moraine soils, which consist of sandy loam and topsoil from the Bozen porphyry plate, fruity-mineral wines thrive. This characteristic is typical for the lower Eisack valley, to which the cultivation area also belongs. The area is not a typical Schiava (Vernatsch) cultivation area, but produces a very interesting, fresh, fruity and honest Schiava (Vernatsch).

Vinification:
The old vines with the Schiava/Vernatsch clones bring a special quality that are specially vinified. After the spontaneous fermentation, the wine matures on its own yeast for more than a year in large chestnut- and oak barrels.

Matching:
The wine goes well with pasta dishes, pizza, typical South Tyrolean dishes such as dumplings but also with Speck/bacon.

Serving temperature:
12 - 14°C.

Ageing potential:
more than 5 years.

Bottle to:
750 ml - 75 cl - 0.75 lt.

Allergens:
Wine can contain sulphites.

Producer:
Winery Rielinger BIO
Wine has always been grown at the Rielinger estate. The Rielingerhof already produced wine in the Middle Ages for the nobility of the nearby castle "Castel Stein", today a ruin. An ancient grape press found on the grounds of the winery and now to be seen in the tasting room, provides evidence for the historical significance of wine making. The family Messner has been cultivating wine for three generations now. While part of the harvest was brought to a cooperative winery in the past, since 2011 the entire wine production is run and marketed directly at the farm. Thus, they can offer their guests a product grown, refined and aged on the farm. The challenge is of course to achieve a very high quality in the vineyard as well as in the cellar. Now they are member of the South Tyrolean Independent Winegrowers since 2011. Furthermor, the family had been thinking about organic production for a long time. After some updatings and advanced trainings on the subject of organic viticulture and discussions with like-minded farmers, they decided in 2015 to join the Bioland association.
