Description:
The complex wine needs a long period of maturation in order to display its full potential with notes of black cherries, forest berries and violets. The lingering, lengthy finish pairs meaty toast aromas with cocoa and cedar. The aromas reverberate on the palate. Fresh acidity and delicate minerality animate the dense structure of the wine. Ripe tannins remain juicy until the end, giving the wine a lush finish.
Grape variety:
Pinot Noir - South Tyrol DOC Riserva
Production area:
This Pinot noir is named after Italy’s most known and famous Pinot Noir CRU, Mazon, located across the valley from Kurtatsch. Since Pinot Noir is highly demanding as a variety, and requires a habitat that fulfills very specific requirements, it was planted where it grows best. Afternoon sun, a unique conglomerate soil composed of loam, chalk and porphyry, and altitudes between 300 and 450 meters offer ideal conditions for an elegant Pinot Noir with a long aging potential.
Vinification:
cold maceration at 12°C for 3 - 4 days, followed by spontaneous fermentation in wooden fermentation vats with long periods of mash contact (3 - 4 weeks). Maturation for 12 months in French barriques (30% new) and at least one year in the bottle.
Food pairing:
Serving temperature:
16 - 18°C.
Ageing potential:
more than 10 years.
Bottle to:
750 ml - 75 cl - 0,75 lt.
Allergens:
wine can contain sulphites.

Vineyards on breathtakingly steep slopes from 220-900m a.s.l. - such a large difference in altitude within one municipality is unique in Europe. The low elevations are among the warmest in Alto Adige and are perfect for important red wines. On the high-altitude sites above the main village of Kurtatsch, the white varieties find ideal conditions. The wide array of elevations and soil types dictates the philosophy of the province’s southernmost cooperative: to produce distinctive wines that reflect their growing site, their terroir, in the best way possible.
A young team, since 2014 led by the winery’s president, Andreas Kofler, has oriented the winery towards sustainable management. Thanks to the 190 small-structured family farms that cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, the best grape material for each individual location can be selected. This and the precise vinification of the individual vineyard sites create distinctive and unmistakable wines which truly reflect their place of origin. The result: fresh, mineral white wines from high locations and long-lasting red wines from warm locations.

Maturation in stainless steel tanks preserves an acidity as crisp as peppermint. The aroma bouquet is reminiscent of mountain herbs, forgotten varieties of pears, yellow plums and lilacs. The finish is like slowly returning to the valley from a great height: the delicately sweet fruit glaze (apricots, white peaches, summer apples) carries a playful touch...
