Description:
Intense ruby red colour. The nose begins with hints of potpourri, wisteria and fruit in spirit, primarily blackberry and cherry. A graceful touch comes from the clear expression of cedar wood and sweet tobacco. Warm and enveloping on the palate: the very fine tannic texture gradually becomes more expressive, assisting a full, rich body. Persistence never paid off.

Production area:
Poggio Antico is a vineyard that combines all the vineyards into a single property, located on one of the highest points of the Montalcino appellation and covering 200 hectares, of which 33 are vineyards. The estate is surrounded by a constant breeze and the vineyards are mainly south-facing, at an average altitude of 480 metres above sea level. The unique climate and privileged location allow for the cultivation of excellent Sangiovese grapes, which are vinified and aged with care and passion to produce an exceptional range of Brunello wines.
Vinification:
Cold fermentation at 12 °C for 3 days. Fermentation was regular with a peak temperature of 30 °C and lasted 10 days. Maturation for 1 year in 500-litre French oak Tonneaux, followed by 18 months in large traditional Slavonian oak casks. The wine was bottle-aged 30 months before release.

At an average elevation of 480 metres above sea level, Poggio Antico’s vineyards are among the highest in the Brunello region. The lofty altitude, combined with the close proximity of the Tyrrhenian Sea, ensures that there is always a steady breeze – which has a beneficial effect etheir in dry or rainy seasons. Thanks to this unique and blessed spot, Poggio Antico wines are characterised by their elegance.
The soil is rocky and calcerous, which makes for good drainage. Cover crops are used to aid moisture retention, increase biodiversity and regenerate the soil.
